David here. I drew a pic of Benno yesterday

David here!

I joined the AUSTRALIAN CARTOONISTS ASSOCIATION a little while back and have been enjoying the experience. I went to the Stanleys (the ACA’s conference and awards) last weekend and did some drawing while I was there, mostly random sketches and attempts at drawing various people.

This loving portrait by David will be at the Squishface Coaster Show, but might need a little paper stuck over the most offensive part.
But which is the most offensive part?

If you missed Ladies Drawing Auxiliary at Squishface last night, you missed MANDY ORD and LEE LAI talking about their influences and amazing work.
As with last time, some of us drew the people in the room. Here’s David’s.

Patrick Alexander takes us round the studio to investigate what Sarah, Ive, Marta, Ben and David are working on for the Exhibitchin’! show. Apologies, the clip is unedited and a bit long — but near the end Ive draws a really great portrait of Patrick.

Thank you to Canson for sponsoring the show, which opens Sat 25th August at 2pm. 309 Victoria St, Brunswick!

In case you thought there wouldn’t be any politics at Exhibitchin’!, here’s a crop of David’s thought-provoking “Political Cartoon”.
Can you guess what Tony Abbott is riding? I bet you can!

Ive, Sarah, Ben, David and Marta took a trip to Cowwarr in July to do some drawing at the Cowwarr Art Space. Sarah went up early to run comics workshops with kids, and then we spent a great weekend in town drawing, hanging out and opening our exhibition Squishface & Fraser (a joint exhibition with printmaker Sue Fraser).

We had a fantastic time. If you think you might like to visit the Art Space or maybe even tee yourself up a residency there, go here for more info.

Check out other amusing clips over at the Squishface YouTube channel.

More bitchin’ arts in progress!

EXHIBITCHIN’! is our first “art show” at Squishface. We’re still making the art. Marta wants to serve milkshakes and trifle at the opening and will not be dissuaded.

EXHIBITCHIN’! FB event here.

Howdy all!!!!  As some of you might know, we here at Squishface Studios will be holding our first exhibition on August 25, Saturday, 2 pm onwards.  It will be held at our studio, 309 Victoria Street Brunswick!  Mark the dates on your calendar as it’s going to be a fun… and dare I say it… a totally “bitchin” day!

Now, the theme of our Exhibition is “Bitchin” and however we may interpret that.  Essentially it just means awesomeness!  The pics above just shows a section of the art currently being worked on.  You’ll all have to come pass Squishface Studios on the day to check out the amazing, the devious, the plain shocking and whatever else art, we just happen to come up with!

Canson are also sponsoring our show!  They’ve been great to provide us with papers, mount boards and schminke water colours.  Very cool, very cool indeed!  Please check out their links as they have cool competitions all the time and their prizes are pretty sweet.

Keep coming back here to check up on our progress as we’ll be updating where we are at!

Things at Squishface on a Thursday: Jo and Benno working hard. The new spinner rack. Sarah teaches.

Ben needs a new housemate.

One of the things we’re doing in Gippsland in July is THIS exhibition at the Cowwarr Art Space!
The opening is on Sunday 8th July at 2pm. We’ll be there, because we’re doing a big fun two day comics jam event over that weekend — also at Cowwarr Art Space. Anyone ‘round Gippsland who wants to hang out and draw with the Squishfacers should get themselves there!
Thanks to Matt Emery, who reminded me we needed to post this up!
